There are many differences between a rugged tablet and a consumer tablet. These are mainly based on 3 factors : the use, the environment for which the tablet is used and the availability of this solution over time (roadmap).
The main objective of a consumer tablet is to satisfy a need, while a ruggedized tablet must meet a professional use and ensure the durability of the solution over time.
A professional tablet is mainly used for a specific purpose, it is a production tool that adapts to a business process.
Several criteria for difference come into play :
• The chassis (solidity or lightness and nice design)
• The quality of the screen (brightness, gorilla glass, anti reflection…)
• The different connectors (RJ45 port, RFID readers, NFC, barcode…)
• Waterproofing (IP standard) and hardening standards (MIL-STD)
• Processor and operating system (performance, graphics…)
