Did you know that ? Who can do the most can’t necessarily do the least.

A rugged tablet is not IP and vice versa.

Ruggedized is defined by standard military standards subject to specific testing protocols. A ruggedized tablet is therefore shock resistant.

The IP is defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission. This index classifies the level of protection that a material offers to the intrusions of solid and liquid bodies.

The protection index is followed by two numbers, in the form “IP XY”. The X represents the solid (dust) tightness, and Y liquid tightness.

This waterproofing standard is divided into two parts, the sealing to solids, which is totally linear. That is to say, a device with the index X=6 is necessarily resistant to the standard corresponding to the index X=5.

The second element, liquid tightness, is not linear, a fracture occurs between index 6 and 7. A device with a Y=7 index is not resistant to tests with a Y=6 index.

It is important for us to know the real needs of our customers. Do you need a hardened product or a waterproof product ? Don’t forget that a hardened (shock resistant) product does not always meet IP standard.

The protection index of your tablet should be chosen according to the use you will make of it.
